Halloween Paper Mache Rattles

Halloween Rattles made from plastic Christmas ornaments covered with Paper Mache, filled with beads, covered with glitter!

Halloween Rattles

Project Instructions – Jack O’Lantern Rattle:

MATERIALS:

  • Creatology Glitter Glue – Black (400100 979037)
  • Creatology Glitter – Orange Metallic (400100 992883)
  • Creatology Stiffened Felt – Black (400100)
  • Creatology Sparkle Pom-poms (886946 093524)
  • Creatology Jumbo Chenille Pipe Cleaners 886946 093371)
  • 4 inch plastic Christmas ornament
  • 5/8 inch wooden dowel
  • ribbon
  • craft glue and/or hot glue
  • orange craft paintBlack Duck tape
  • beads
  • newspaper
  • scissors

STEPS:

  1. Wrap wooden dowel with glue and ribbon, from one end to another.
  2. Make paper mache paste in a plastic bowl with one cup of water and three tablespoons of white craft glue, mix together.
  3. Tear up several strips of newspaper into 3×1 inch strips.
  4. Dip one strip at a time into paste, let excess drip off, place on ornament.  Repeat process until entire ornament is covered with paper mache.
  5. Let paper mache ornament dry completely.
  6. Paint pumpkin ornament with orange craft paint, let dry.
  7. Cover pumpkin with glue and Orange Metallic glitter, let dry.
  8. Draw eyes, nose, and mouth with Black glitter glue, let dry.
  9. Put several beads into ornament.
  10. Add strips of Duck tape to top of dowel to make a snug fit into ornament.
  11. Add glue to Duck tape, insert dowel into ornament, let dry.
  12. Add more pieces of Duck tape around ornament opening to secure to dowel.
  13. Glue several pieces of coordinating ribbon to top of dowel, over Duck tape.
  14. Glue a piece of Jumbo Chenille pipe cleaner around top of dowel for Jack-O-Lantern’s collar.
  15. Cut out hat and brim pattern pieces from stiffened Black felt. Glue cone together, then glue cone to brim.
  16. Glue piece of ribbon to bottom of hat above brim, and small sparkle pom-pom to top of hat.
  17. Glue hat to Jack-O-Lantern’s head.

  • Creatology Glow Glitter (400100 993101)
  • Creatology multi-colored wiggle eyes, 20 mm (400100 657003)
  • 4 inch flat plastic Christmas ornament
  • 5/8 inch wooden dowel
  • sheer Ivory or White ribbon
  • craft glue and/or hot glue
  • white, brown craft paint
  • Black Duck tape
  • beads
  • newspaper
  • scissors

STEPS:

  8. Glue green wiggle eyes on mummy’s face.
  9. Put several beads into ornament.
  10. Add strips of Duck tape to top of dowel to make a snug fit into ornament.
  11. Add glue to Duck tape, insert dowel into ornament, let dry.
  12. Add more pieces of Duck tape around ornament opening to secure to dowel.
  13. Glue a few pieces of newspaper over Duck tape, paint newspaper white.
  14. Wrap sheer ivory ribbon around mummy’s face and neck, gluing in a few places. Leave eyes free of ribbon. Leave a few pieces of ribbon longer to hang from mummy’s head.

MATERIALS:

  • Creatology Glitter Glue – Princess Pink (400100 993163)
  • Creatology Glitter Glue – Silver (400100 794043)
  • Creatology Stiffened Glitter Felt – White (400100 750643)
  • Creatology Stiffened Felt – Orange (400100 750568)
  • Creatology Sparkle Pom-poms (886946 093524 )
  • Creatology Chenille Pipe Cleaners (400100 232484)
  • Creatology Wiggle Eyes Multi-colored 20 mm (400100 657003)
  • wooden dowel
  • ribbon
  • craft glue and/or hot glue
  • pencil
  • scissors

STEPS:

  1. Wrap wooden dowel with glue and ribbon, from one end to another.
  2. Cut out two of the ghost pattern from white stiffened felt.
  3. Cut out one pumpkin pattern from orange stiffened felt.
  4. Outline one side of pumpkin with Princess Pink glitter glue. Let dry.
  5. Glue several pieces of coordinating ribbon to one end of dowel, as seen in photo.
  6. Glue ghost pieces together with the dowel between them (about halfway up the ghost’s body,  with the ribbon end up) to form wand.
  7. Glue medium orange sparkle pom-pom to opposite end of dowel.
  8. Outline both sides of ghost with silver glitter glue, one side at a time. Let first side dry before doing next side.
  9. Glue wiggle eyes to front side of ghost. Add ribbon bow if desired.
  10. Glue pumpkin to front of ghost as seen in photo.
  11. Wrap a two-inch piece of green chenille pipe cleaner around a pencil to curl. Slide off of pencil, glue behind top of pumpkin.
